A lure is a bait that entices the squirrel into the trap, and it can be made from a variety of materials. Peanut butter or other nut oil are great choices, but a little sunflower seeds trailing out the trap door can also be very effective. This can reduce the squirrel’s anxiety.
When it comes to removing a squirrel from a home, keep in mind that the first step is to remove any food and pets that may be in the area where the squirrel is hiding. Once the squirrel is trapped, it will be unable to leave the area, and will likely chew up the hole and make it worse. Ideally, a squirrel’s diet should consist of 80% squirrel block, 20% quality rodent block and 20% fruits and vegetables with proper Ca/pH ratios.
The best way to tell if your squirrel has MBD is to watch how he reacts to calcium supplements. Most of the time, it’s the older squirrel that responds slowly. If he’s showing signs of atypical bone-building, he probably has metabolic bone disease. This disease affects bone structure and calcium metabolism, resulting in weak bones that are easily broken.
Trap placement
To get a squirrel out of your cellin, you should first attract the rodents to the trap. A bait made of peanut butter or nut oil can be placed on a cracker or fruit. Another option is to use sunflower seeds that you can trail out of the trap’s door to reduce the rodents’ anxiety. If you are unable to attract the rodents with peanut butter or nut oil, sunflower seeds are a good alternative. Sunflower seeds can be sprinkled on a peanut butter lure, or placed on a cracker. Sunflower seeds can also be placed on the rat lure and trailed out the trap’s door, which is helpful for deterring the rodents.
If you cannot relocate the squirrel to another area, then you can consider a live trap. If a squirrel is trapped alive, it is likely to escape and mate again. Large traps have high pan tension, so it is difficult for a small squirrel to run through them. Lastly, set the trap in the shade, so the squirrel does not get too hot. In addition, trapping is not a permanent solution. If the animal gets out of the house, new ones will be coming to take its place.
