You can find a wide variety of pre-made feeding trays online. If you don’t want to spend the time making your own, you can always make a hole in the bottom of the plywood cage for the bird’s head. You can also buy metal food and water containers and attach them to the sides of the cage. The wood that you put three inches above the food bowl prevents the squirrel from standing in it and makes clean up easier.
Step By Step Guide
Next, cut a large piece of plywood that will serve as the back of the cage. Secure this piece to the existing frame using a power screwdriver. Cut a 2-foot-by-18-inch piece of plywood to be the top and bottom of the cage. Then, center the top and bottom pieces of plywood onto the existing frame. Lastly, attach the sides to the frame using nails or glue.
Once the frame is attached, cut two pieces of 2-foot by 18-inch plywood and attach them with wood screws. The top and bottom plywood pieces will be attached to the existing frame using wood screws. Now, you can move on to building the sides. To make the sides, center the top and bottom pieces and add the side pieces to the top and bottom. Use the nail gun to attach the side pieces to the existing frame.
A large piece of plywood will serve as the back of the cage. Use a power screwdriver and wood screws to fasten the frame to the top and bottom plywood pieces. Next, attach the side pieces to the bottom and top pieces. Be sure to use a nail gun to attach the side pieces. After this, you’re ready to add the top and bottom panels. The sides will cover the top and bottom.
Once you’ve built the base of the cage, it’s time to add the floor and cover it with soft hay. This will provide ample room for the squirrel to wriggle around. Remember to change the bedding daily. Avoid using ‘Care Fresh’ bedding as it contains toxic dyes. Choose a heavy cotton canvas duck. Then, fill the cage with fresh hay and clean it every night.

Regardless of where they live, they will need a large, sturdy cage to stay healthy. In addition to providing food and water, your pet squirrel will need a clean living space. The sides of the cage should be free of debris, so you should keep a paper or tarp underneath to catch the fallout.
