In order to install Squirrel SQL to connect to a database, you must first install a JDBC driver. The list of available drivers is alphabetical, so you must choose the one that corresponds to your database. Type in ‘oracle’ in the Extra Class Path field and then click OK. The JDBC driver will now be installed. A check mark will appear next to the installed driver.
Once the database is installed, you need to configure SQuirreL SQL to use that database. SquirreL SQL supports various types of databases. When you open the ‘Settings’ window, you’ll see a list of databases. For example, if a database is marked with a red X, you will need a driver from the database vendor to connect to it.
Configuring a JDBC driver
To get started, you’ll need to install a JDBC driver on your Squirrel server. You can find the JDBC drivers listed in alphabetical order in the Extra Class Path. Type Oracle Thin Driver into the text box and click OK. Once you’ve entered the correct JDBC driver name, select OK. A check mark will appear next to the JDBC driver.
Next, add the CData JDBC driver for MySQL to your Squirrel SQL client. Click Add Driver and you’ll be presented with the Add Driver wizard. Type the name of your driver in the Drivers field and click Add. The next step is to select the Extra Class Path tab and locate the JDBC driver you just added. The JAR file must be located in the lib subdirectory of your Squirrel installation directory.
If you’re using SQL Management Studio to configure the Squirrel SQL client, you’ll need to install the SolidDB plug-in. Download it from the Apache Derby website and drop it into the plugin directory of your Squirrel SQL installation directory. Once Squirrel is installed, you can open the database to view and interact with your data.
Creating a session

If you do not add this certificate, Squirrel will use the default embedded JVM, which will fail to load the certificates store. To prevent this from happening, make sure to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable. After that, you should be able to use Squirrel to query the database.
Squirrel SQL is a powerful open source database interface. To get started, launch the Squirrel SQL Client, and then select File > New Session Properties. Then, navigate to the local hard disk and locate the GoodData Data Warehouse JDBC driver. Click OK, and your database should now be connected.
