Syntax errors in Squirrel code
Squirrel does not come with debugging capabilities built into the language itself. Hence, you will need an extension such as Squirrel Debug Server to enable this feature. Once you have installed it, you will need to configure the extension in order for it to work. After that, you should run a test project on your local computer. To get an idea of how to configure the extension, you can try a pre-built sample application.
When you see an error, it usually means that your code is not properly structured. The error may occur because the code has forgotten its end. In such cases, you will need to look at the code in question. Once you have the right environment and compiler, you can start debugging. Besides this, you can also try debugging by bisection if you are in a desperate situation. If you do not see any errors, you can use a debugger to check out your code.
Installing the JDBC driver on Squirrel
After installing the Oracle Thin Driver on Windows, you can install the JDBC driver on Squirrrel. The JDBC driver is required by Java programs to connect to a Microsoft SQL Server database. To install the JDBC driver, go to Squirrel SQL’s Extra Class Path, and click on the Add button. Now, in the Additional Class Path tab, type jdbc:mysql in the Example URL box.
To install the JDBC driver on Squirrrel, you need to add a TLS certificate to its trusted store and set the JAVA_HOME environment variable. Without this, Squirrel will boot using its embedded JVM, which will not be able to find the certificates store. Once these two steps are complete, you are ready to connect to your database.
Using Squirrel SQL to connect to a database
Squirrel SQL is an open source, JDBC database interface. To use Squirrel SQL, first install the required JDBC driver. You can find these drivers listed alphabetically in the Extra Class Path. Type the name of the driver, for example, CData JDBC Driver for MySQL or JDBC Driver for SQL Server, and click OK. Once installed, the JDBC driver will be listed in your program’s classpath.
Squirrel SQL has some nice features. The “+” symbol adds an alias, and the “Test” button tests the connection.
