How to Make Homemade Squirrel Repellent
- If you want to use a natural, effective solution to prevent squirrels in your yard, consider making your own homemade squirrel repellent. Some common ingredients used in repellents include hot pepper sauce, Cayenne pepper, dish soap, onions, and Rosemary. Mix them all together and apply to tree bark and plant branches to deter squirrels. For a more natural approach, you can also combine two parts hot pepper sauce and one part mineral oil. For best results, apply the mixture twice daily for two weeks.
You can also make homemade squirrel repellent by cooking onions with jalapeno, cayenne pepper, and paprika. Just heat these ingredients together over medium heat and allow them to cool. Sprinkle these mixtures onto plants, and they should stay away from your garden for a few days. Do not forget to apply this mixture every few days during rainy season. Once the bait is in place, you can begin attracting squirrels to your yard.

Another option for homemade squirrel repellents is to combine the powder with bird seed. Although squirrels don’t like spicy food, it won’t harm the birds. In fact, this mixture will actually help the birds eat the seed, which will keep squirrels away. These recipes will also add flavor to the bird’s food, which will further deter the rodents from gnawing on your plants.
