What Can You Give a Baby Squirrel to Eat?
Among the many things you can give a baby squirrel, you should be aware of the type of food you are giving it. Many squirrels get hooked on peanuts and corn, which are not the best choice for your little friend. However, squirrels are actually very omnivorous and will happily eat all kinds of fruits, nuts, vegetables, and other items. Here is a guide to help you choose the right food for your furry friend.
Nuts
Whether your baby is a wild one or not, it will appreciate some nutritious treats. Squirrels have been known to consume nuts and seeds for years, and you can provide them with some treats in the form of pecans, which are high in fiber. They contain over nineteen vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A and C. Pecans also contain potassium, which supports bone health and muscle function.
If you can, try to find a tree where squirrels live. Trees are ideal as food, but you can also offer them other foods that they eat, including fruits, vegetables, seeds, and grains. Remember, they’ll eat anything that tastes good, including peanuts. However, peanuts aren’t actually a nut, and are actually a legume, so you won’t be getting the high-quality fat that you’d find in a true nut. Furthermore, field corn also contains starch, which is converted to sugar by the liver. If your baby squirrel is starving, consider offering him a nut or two along with a handful of grass and some ground corn.
High-Calcium vegetables
Wild foods can be found in abundance during the growing season, so offer as many as you can, including fresh berries and apples. Apples contain over eighty percent water, and are a great source of fiber and natural sugars. They also contain Vitamin A and C, as well as potassium, which supports healthy bones and muscles. Besides, they’re highly attractive to baby squirrels. The best way to ensure that your baby squirrel gets enough vitamins and minerals is to keep them as hydrated as possible.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are an excellent source of calcium for baby squirrels. You should give them a small plate of these every four hours or so. Baby squirrels should be fed a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, and they should be weaned off of formula by about six weeks of age. A variety of different kinds of food is recommended, including vegetables, fruits, nuts, pecans, and dried fruit.
Monkey biscuits
If you have a baby squirrel, you may be wondering what they like to eat. Monkey biscuits are a great way to supplement their diet with nutritious, natural food. Squirrels love to eat insects, such as mealworms and crickets. These insects are good sources of vitamins and minerals, such as calcium and vitamin D. They may also enjoy moths and moth-like insects.
You can also offer squirrel formula as a supplement to its regular food. You can give them a monkey biscuit mixed with formula, such as Zupreem. After that, they can continue taking formula as long as they want. Ideally, this will happen between seven and eight weeks of age. A squirrel should be eating solids within two hours of their first meal, but if this does not happen, you can offer them monkey biscuits every half an hour.
Esbilac
If your baby squirrel is orphaned and you can’t provide solid food, you can use a milk replacer formula such as Esbilac. The powder works quickly and dries easily. It provides all the nutrients an orphaned squirrel needs. You can purchase Esbilac for baby squirrels at your local pet store or on Amazon for the best price. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully so that your squirrel won’t ingest too much formula.
You can start feeding your baby squirrels Esbilac as soon as they open their eyes, but be aware that Esbilac is often messy and can damage their fur. It is best to use peanut butter or a quality seed mix. However, don’t feed your baby squirrel more than four ounces a day, since it could cause hair loss. The manufacturer of Esbilac for baby squirrels has resolved these issues.
Zupreem monkey biscuits
Using Zupreem monkey biscuits is a great way to feed your baby squirrel and avoid feeding them rodent chow. This brand of baby squirrel food is made specifically for small animals. You can buy this food at pet stores that sell exotic animals. Unlike hamster and gerbil food, which is meant for humans, monkey chow is for animals of all sizes and species.
This diet is meant to supplement the diet of outdoor squirrels. It is not recommended for indoor squirrels, who depend on their owner for balance. If fed only squirrel food, they are susceptible to metabolic bone disease, a result of a lack of nutrition to their nervous system. For their diet, they need 80% rodent blocks, 15% fruit and vegetables, and 5% nuts and seeds. The amount of fruit and vegetables should not exceed five percent of the total body weight.
Zupreem
If you’ve just caught a baby squirrel, you’re probably wondering how to provide a healthy diet. There are several things you need to know. First of all, it is illegal in several states to own squirrels as pets. If you have a sick or injured squirrel, you need to take it to a veterinarian right away. Zupreem is a common brand of squirrel feed, and it is easy to find at any pet store. You can also buy it here at The Squirrel Store. Be sure to follow the directions to the letter. If you don’t, the baby squirrel will suffer.
A baby squirrel should be fed solid food between six and seven weeks of age. They are able to tolerate about 8 CCs per feeding, and can be given grapes, apples, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and corn. A good rule of thumb is to give them a bit of Zupreem every few days. If you’re worried that a squirrel might reject the formula, don’t worry – Zupreem for a baby squirrel to eat doesn’t taste bad.
