Using baits
Squirrels are often considered a nuisance pest in our homes and gardens, and they can cause a variety of problems for property owners. Whether the problem stems from an infestation or a general annoyance, using traps is often the best way to deal with the problem. When used properly, traps are highly effective, but they only work as good as the bait you use. If the squirrels cannot smell the bait, they will not enter the trap.
A great non-lethal bait to use is peanut butter. This food is delicious and readily available to squirrels. Simply place a peanut butter jar on the trigger plate of a one-way trap and wait. Once the squirrel has been drawn in by the peanut butter, you can release them using a loud click. Unlike traps that use a clicker, squirrels can feel the pressure and trigger the trap themselves.

Creating a humane squirrel trap is a simple DIY project for catching and releasing your neighborhood rodents. First, you’ll need to find a sturdy tree. Make sure to choose one with a sturdy trunk so you can reach the base of the tree with the trap. Next, place the BASE of the trap on the ground and the TOP on the tree trunk. Finally, secure the top with a bungee cord.
Another common squirrel joke uses the infamous ballet “The Nutcracker.” Like us, squirrels enjoy art and are particularly fond of this story. They are even fond of this ballet, and they will likely be spooked if you use a cage trap to catch them. You can also try a single animal live trap, and use the same treat each time. This method will ensure that your trap remains a success every time.
