Newborn eastern gray squirrels are born naked, with no fur. They weigh between 15 grams and half an ounce. By ten to twelve weeks of age, they start to develop a tail and hair. By eight weeks, they start venturing out of the nest. By 10 to 12 months, they are nearly adult-sized. They can live up to 20 years in captivity.
