What To Do When You Catch A Squirrel
Keeping a squirrel as a pet is not as difficult as many people think. You can easily trap a squirrel in your backyard with the help of a sturdy wire cage and some peanuts or sunflower seeds. You may want to use a large box, but you can also use a shallow cardboard box. A box filled with leaves, dead grass, and small twigs works well. Providing your new pet with a healthy diet is essential for its survival.
If you catch a squirrel in your home, do not attempt to release it right away. It’s important not to let it sit in the attic while you’re attempting to capture it, because it could easily contract diseases and pests. Plus, your new pet will likely be more likely to get into trouble with your family or neighbors, so it’s better to release it at night. You can also trap and release a squirrel to a natural area for a safe and easy release.
Steps to Take
After capturing the squirrel, make sure to give it some time to adjust. You can leave it unsupervised for a few hours before releasing it back into the wild. Remember that it’s important to keep the animal secure, so you can’t let it out too soon. After an hour or so, you can let the squirrel roam the yard. If you have the opportunity, release the squirrel as soon as it gets used to its new home.
