When you’re thinking of what to feed a pregnant squirrel, you might wonder what you should feed her. But before you buy squirrel food, there are some things that you should never give your baby. Raw ingredients are best. This means no roasted or salted sunflower seeds, and flavored peanuts are best kept for humans. Excess salt, spices, or flavor may disrupt her digestion. Instead, use only natural ingredients that your pet will love.

Fruits
Squirrels need a varied diet, and fruits and vegetables are an essential part of it. They contain important vitamins and minerals and add variety to the squirrel’s diet. Fruit is an essential part of a squirrel’s diet, but it should be given sparingly, as too much fruit can cause diarrhea. However, you can still provide small amounts of fruit to your squirrel. In fact, some species of pregnant squirrel even eat small amounts of fruit in the wild.
As much as possible, give your squirrel a variety of fruits and vegetables. They should eat at least two handfuls of nuts per day. Whole roasted pumpkin seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, and acorns are excellent sources of calcium. You should also give them a small bowl of peanut butter every day. Even if your squirrel is averse to peanut butter, you should still feed it.
While most squirrels will happily eat anything, you should be careful not to overfeed them. A pregnant squirrel’s bones may weaken due to too much fruit, so make sure you feed it in moderation. Despite its cute appearance, squirrels need a balanced diet to maintain a healthy pregnancy. You should also provide your pet with clean water for drinking. During the summer and fall, squirrels will consume more fruit.
Bones
You may be surprised to learn that a pregnant squirrel can actually eat bones! Bones are great sources of calcium for your pet squirrel. A great alternative to raw meat is animal grade bonemeal powder or eggshell powder, which you can make yourself by boiling eggshells and grinding them in a coffee grinder. Half a teaspoon of either of these sources of calcium will provide enough for your baby squirrel. In addition to chewing bones, your pet squirrel will also benefit from vitamin D.
The proper balance of calcium and phosphorus is vital in preventing the development of MBD in squirrels. This disease is not curable, but it can be treated. It may even be reversed by exposing your pet squirrel to ample amounts of sunlight. Bones to feed a pregnant squirrel should be available to them for at least a year before the mother is expected to conceive. However, do not assume that feeding a pregnant squirrel bones is safe – always keep in mind that your pet needs ample calcium to make her baby grow.
A squirrel’s diet includes insects, fruits, and eggs. They also eat leftover mashed potatoes and flower bulbs. Squirrels swarm every thirteen to seventeen years in the United States. The average pregnant squirrel will eat up to three pounds of bones a day, and it’s essential to prevent attracting an unwelcome guest. And if you have a baby, you don’t want to leave them on their own!
Water
Keeping baby squirrels warm is crucial during the early weeks of pregnancy. A ziplock bag filled with hot water or heated rice can be placed underneath a clean blanket to raise the body temperature. The infant needs at least 98 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit to survive. If the squirrel is very weak, it can only consume a few drops of liquid. Water for pregnant squirrels should be available throughout the pregnancy. A warm bath is another great option.
While a healthy diet is important for pregnant squirrels, tritiated water should be an essential part of their diet. During pregnancy, pregnant female squirrels need additional amounts of calcium, vitamins, and other nutrients. In addition to freshwater, squirrels should also be given a variety of fruits and nuts. While fruit is safe to give during pregnancy, too much can cause diarrhea. In the wild, pregnant squirrels may be given small amounts of fruits.
Although baby squirrels do not get fat during pregnancy, their devoted mother will often provide their babies with water. At about four weeks of age, baby squirrels are fed by their mothers and will feed on her milk a few times a day. Until they are eight to 12 weeks old, babies will be dependent on their mothers for food and water. Baby squirrels should remain with their mothers for as long as possible, but if a baby squirrel gets lost, keep an eye out for it.
