Where to Get a Pet Squirrel From
If you are looking for a cute, furry little squirrel, you are in luck, as there are many places you can get them. Some of these places are orphaned squirrels, pet stores, and even attics. In this article, we’ll cover a few different options. If you’re looking for a squirrel to take home, these are the best places to find one. Read on to discover the benefits of squirrels as pets.
Getting a pet squirrel from an orphaned squirrel
Choosing a squirrel as a pet can be a challenging task. The most common mistake people make is trying to raise one of these animals as a pet. Squirrels are notoriously solitary animals once they have ceased to be a baby. Despite the charm of these furry creatures, these animals do not make good pets. A good way to prevent this scenario is to leave the mother squirrel alone for at least a few days. Once her young become mobile and venture out of the nest, she will move them to another location.
The first thing you should do after finding an orphaned squirrel is to check its health and wellbeing. A veterinarian will recommend the best course of action when caring for an injured squirrel. In case of an injured squirrel, use a damp washcloth to mimic the way a mother would lick a baby squirrel. If the baby is in good health, the mother will likely care for it.
When choosing a pet squirrel, check the age of the baby. If the baby is under four weeks old, it’s not likely to have teeth yet. In fact, it may be a couple of days or even a week before its first teeth appear. However, keep in mind that squirrel teeth need to align before they wear down. As such, they are best released when they are at least ten weeks old.
Getting a pet squirrel from a pet store
Buying a pet squirrel from a pet store is one of the easiest ways to get a furry friend. The store will provide you with all the necessary food and supplies to get your new pet off to a great start. Remember, squirrels need fresh water constantly, so make sure to provide a bowl or bottle for them to drink from. A bowl is preferable to a water bottle, as they can catch water droplets. A water bottle must be kept clean and not clogged by a ball. A squirrel will chew through plastic bottles, so a glass bottle is preferable. If you can’t find a glass bottle, you may want to consider getting a chew guard for it to keep your new pet safe.
Squirrels can be very challenging to handle, so it is recommended that you buy them at an early age. This way, they will be better domesticated and learn more commands quickly. Be sure to get a cage that is large enough for your new pet to live comfortably in. You should also choose a cage that is big enough for your new pet to play and jump. Otherwise, they may become bored or get sick.
Getting a pet squirrel from an attic
There are many ways to get rid of a pet squirrel from your attic. The best way is to trap it before it tries to break into your home. If you do not catch it right away, you may have a new pet on your hands. First, seal off the hole. If you cannot seal it, try to fill it with newspaper. Wait a day or two. If the newspaper is still intact, the squirrel is probably outside your attic. If you still have no luck, you can try releasing a live trap. Live traps can be purchased from hardware stores. Make sure to cover the trap with a towel or blanket before placing it near the entry point.
In the early winter, squirrels mate and have their first litter. By late Spring, they are ready to produce their second litter. In order to raise their offspring, they need a warm, dry place to live. If trees or nearby brush are cut down, they will also choose to live in your attic. After the first litter, a second litter is not uncommon in midsummer. Cutting back tree limbs and making your attic less attractive to squirrels can also keep them away from your roof.
